cocktail d&d

Geek

It was suggested last Friday night by pipstar that an evening which combines cocktails and old-school role playing could be entertaining. I'm inclined to agree. The reason why most people don't get into role playing (although they'll rarely admit it) is they would feel embarrassed to spend an evening pretending to a hairy, smelly, axe-wielding dwarf with an attitude problem, or similar. I don't know why, it sounds like a lot of fun to me.

Of course, the reason why this isn't a problem for geeks is that we don't care what you think.

Anyway. Enter uber-strong alcoholic drinks. Everyone knows that cocktails are the ultimate social lubricant, especially the ones I make. There's no better way to get over the fact that the bearded, geeky guy with a bit of paunch sitting across from you is playing a cute, two hundred year old female elf. Or that your character has a crush on her. It couldn't possibly go wrong.

So. This is all very well and good in the hypothetical, but do I expect you to just take my word for it? No! I'm willing to put up: Cocktail D&D is on! I will be your gracious host, bartender and GM for the evening. If you are interested (how could you not be?!) then let me know. Places are limited and filling fast.

omigod! I have no words to describe the fear that cocktail D & D evokes ... watch me run! How about cocktails and Buffy? Or maybe Romy & Michelle, Dirty Dancing ...

Tansy! All the cool kids are doing it (cf. above). If I had to sit through Dirty Dancing, it is the least you can do.

aaaaagh! how could you do this to me. interstate. can't get back to play. having uber geek withdrawal symptoms. need to pretend to be powerful magician. will fry you all with my fireball wand plus two. (unless you make it on a weekend and i can fly back - via magic carpet of course - and join in the adventuring). now, where did i put my pointy hat?

having uber geek withdrawal symptoms

don't worry: I'm sure the dork is still in you.

I'd be interested. I've always wanted to participate in the highest form of geek culture but was always afraid to ask. . . .

Except once, in my mid teens, in a snowy field. Once terrence the dungeon master applied spirit gum and prosthetic dwarf ears to my real ears I could not look back. However, this experience is further in the past every day and I fear will one day be forgotten.

Bravo, lads! What a showing! As soon[*] as I get the time clear I'll start organising it.

[*] For values of soon being sometime between "now" and "the end of the year". But don't worry, it *will* happen.

Can I come for the cocktails and skip the role playing?
...Unless Lara Croft is a character in one of the games and I get to kick geek arse wearing leather. Or be She-Ra, Princess of Power. I'd settle for that one.
Um... Somehow I get the impression that's not really what role playing under the nerd definition of the term is about, is it?
Oh well, guess I'm not geek enough to accept the challenge.
Wanna do Dirty Dancing night instead, Tansarella?
Coz NO ONE puts Baby in a corner. Tee hee.
