how to vote in the 2004 australian federal election

Life

Okay, after doing a minimal amount of research, here's my official voting guide for the election tomorrow, for South Australia in the Senate and the electorate of Adelaide for the House of Representatives.

For the Senate in South Australia, vote Group I - The Greens (that's an 'i', not a one). They give their prefs first to the Group P Independents (i.e. Benno) and have all the really undesirable parties at the bottom.

Putting the Democrats before Labor is a worry - they should be given no encouragement after giving preferences to Family First (the evil as-bad-as-One-Nation party) but the Australian Progressive Alliance seem like they may have some sort of clue. Of course, I haven't checked out the rest of the independents, but based on how Group I is laid out, I'd guess they are positioned fine.

For the Electorate of Adelaide, I recommend voting for (in order):

  1. Jake BUGDEN - Greens
  2. Amanda BARLOW - Independent
  3. Kate ELLIS - Australian Labor Party
  4. Richard PASCOE - Australian Democrats
  5. Trish WORTH - Liberal Party
  6. Peter G ROBINS - Family First Party

Amanda Barlow is an independent for the ban-live-exports platform (as is Benno), which is a worthy cause.

Happy voting!

right on mang! fekin get some reform happening. i voted on tuesday - we're still writing 'tampa' on our ballots right? forget that - i'm going to launch a campaign from the 2nd comment of mikes post on his blog for everyone to write 'get ruddocked' or 'ruddock off' or 'cheeky little ruddock' or something on their ballots so that 'ruddock' can finally be accepted as a swear word. so go to it kids, act local think global etc. cant talk, off to a UN prepcomm darlings. mwah mwah. after that i'm going to shave 'ruddock' into the back of my head. that'll shock the grannys.

I am envious that you get to vote in a marginal electorate. My seat - Boothby - was won by over 12,000 votes in 2001.

i plan on allowing my 18 month old son to mark the ballot for me, thus playing a part in the removal of the Howard Govt :)

I second that Jess. Now that, as Minchin said, Howard has a mandate, we are doomed!
