evolution in action
Life
If you have never been to the North Terrace campus of the University of Adelaide (honestly, who wouldn't have?) then you will probably know about the large flight of steps leading from the Art Gallery down to the foot bridge.
Incidently, these steps are fun to ride a bike down, but make sure there are no people or security guards around when you try: You'll look exceptionally stupid when you come off and break multiple bones.
There was a middle-aged couple who I assume were some sort of parents, transporting two babies in a double stroller - the long kind with one child housed in front of the other - down the stairs. One baby starts crying, the one in the back, so they stop and the mother takes the child out to pacify it somehow.
She then poceeds to hurry down the steps with this child, leaving the father with the other. He then starts stepping the stroller down - the first baby in the front extended about a meter and a half out from the steps, with another two floors' worth to go. The thing was violently thrown about as the father hurriedly negotiated the rear wheels down, one step at a time.
Clearly, the intelligent thing to do would have been to take the nearby, albeit slightly extended route designed for wheelchair access, but hey, what are the odds of the guy slipping or the baby falling out?
I would have stopped to help, but I don't believe in interfering with evolution.
