mo' toys

Geek

So I should probably start introducing some of my new toys. First up, a Sony Ericsson P910i. Yep, I did pick it up in the end, but will probably get a Treo 650 anyway. I had a play with a 650 today and I deem it to be nifty. The interface is much snappier than the P910i, it seems just as capable and has a SD expansion slot, rather than a Duo, which is useful.

The P910i is a nice device, but it really is just an incremental update to its predecessors. Just about every application has received some polish, Bluetooth and syncing actually works and the qwerty keyboard behind the flip is surprisingly useful. The camera is improved, but still is nothing to write home about. IMAP folder support seems to be better, i.e. existant. it has a lot more built-in storage than the old P800, and supports up to 1Gb Duo cards. In fact the only missing feature that really bugs me is the ability to transfer multiple files at once using bluetooth. Why oh why do I have to send each photo or movie to my laptop individually?!

Still, there is nothing really exceptional about it, the phone still feels like it came from the same era as the P800; the early 00's. In phone terms, that is a long time ago, so I see a Palm in my not-too-distant-future. For the meantime, I am armed with a phone with a video camera. Be afraid, be very afraid. My first work is entitled Flabula From Outer Space. Enjoy.

I have a similar complaint about the t630's bluetooth connectivity. One file at a time makes it a bit of a chore when transfering to 'puter's or phones. However Mac OS's Bluetooth File Exchange utility allows me browse the phone and grab as many from one folder (pics are seperate from sounds and themes) as i like in one go. Not very handy if you're trying to send your photo albumn to a mate at the pub but whatcha gonna do?. Besides you're a clever lad Mike, I'm sure you'll figure a way around it :)

Aww, shucks! The P800 did not support file browsing via bluetooth, which was always a pain. I am not sure know if the P910i does, because gnome-bluetooth does not support it anyway. Next time I fire up a proprietary operating system, I will let you know. :)
