music you have not (yet) heard of

Life

For that Adelaide sound, see Little Ice Age. I just picked up their EP from Big ★ (while I did get the last copy in the Adelaide store, I am sure there are more to be found). It can only be described as über dreamy. They have some some tracks to download on their website from when they were known as The Sunroom, but the sound of those earlier tracks is quite far removed from that on the new release. They are Three D's feature release of the week right now, so tune in.

For that Brooklyn sound, you want Nervous Cabaret. These guys are dark, loud and gritty. This is music you can get behind; I cannot stop listening to their new self-titled album at the moment. Get a copy (available online), turn your stereo up to eleven and let is wash over you. Bathe in it. Daily. The earlier EP seems to be out of print (or whatever they call it in the music industry) but a copy found on Amazon's marketplace is in the mail. Excellent.

Update: Wherein I correct a glaring omission by adding a third sound:

For that endearingly-pathetic-introspective-pop sound, run (don't walk) to the Awkward Songz album by Jacob and Mal. Freely downloadable, it is pure pop - unabridged self-indulgence with ready-witted lyrics in a tasty lolly wrapper. Half written by Jacob, half written by Mal, yet seamless in its delivery (like those multi-coloured boiled lollies - okay, maybe I have takent that metaphor too far)
