Rather than making yet another one of their exceptionally unhelpful comments (such as: condoms don't stop AIDS), the Vatican actually has had something useful to say. Namely that the Theory of Evolution and the Book of Genesis are "perfectly compatible". They even took a swing at fundamentalist Christians who do claim that Evolution contradicts the Bible.
Have a read of the /. discussion about this, it is pretty entertaining.
